Using the Position Description Lookup Database

  • Use the “look-up” categories provided to search for a specific Position Description
  • Begin by selecting one or more of the look-up criteria relevant for the position of interest; selecting multiple “look-up” criteria will yield faster, more focused results.
  • Multiple items within each Grade, Bargaining Unit and Job Family field can be selected by holding the ‘Crtl’ button and clicking the desired items. Hold the ‘Crtl’ button and click on an already selected item to de-select it.
  • The “Temple Grade” Look-up category requires a preceding alphabetic indicator for the salary or rate structure category plus a two digit numeric identifier for  most grade levels, such as “ T_ _ “ or “U _ _”,  i.e.  T21, U02…EXCEPT for positions included in the 1199 Clerical UNIT which are assigned to grades identified with a single alphabetic indicator   i.e.  “B ,C, D, E, F, G or H”

Other important PD lookup-Information

Position descriptions in this system incorporate the typical duties and responsibilities broadly performed in the specified position. PLEASE recognize that more detailed essential functions including specific assignments, daily tasks, duties and individual responsibilities may (and usually will) differ, especially for multi-incumbent positions, between incumbents and departments. It is recommended that department maintain a specific description documenting the individual details of each incumbent’s position.

  • Position descriptions for non-bargaining positions are semi generic in nature and may be further supplemented by the Family Role Inventory as incorporated and defined in Temple University’s Job Classification System.  Refer to the Role Inventory column of the look-up as a basis for a new description.
  • At times, searches may not yield an electronic or up-to-date position description.  Verify the correctness of the “LOOK-UP” criteria and try the search again.  For information and assistance in developing a position description, please consult the HR Generalist servicing your department.
  • Refer to IGreentree, IHiring manager module to identify a  required job class number  used to create an electronic requisition
